BRANT OLDERSHAW
Brant Oldershaw

Brant Oldershaw is a structural engineer and project manager for WSP-Halsall, overseeing their Building Structures group for the Hamilton-Niagara region. Brant graduated from Queen’s University’s Civil Engineering program in 2005. While completing his Master’s degree at Queen’s, Brant joined the Structural Design team at Halsall Associates in Toronto. At Halsall, Brant had the opportunity to lead his firm’s efforts on many high profile projects, including the $1.75 billion Humber Regional Hospital in Toronto, University of Waterloo’s Quantum-Nano Centre, and several skyscrapers in the Middle East, among others. Brant joined WSP in 2013, where he has had the chance to expand their structural practice to the Hamilton-Niagara region and lead local projects such as the Meridian Centre arena in St. Catharines and McMaster’s new downtown campus, as well as international projects like the World Trade Centre in New York.

Meanwhile, Brant comes from Canada’s most recognized family for the sport of canoeing & kayaking, with his grandfather, father, uncles and cousin having competed at the Olympic Games, culminating with his cousin Mark winning a medal in the last Olympics in London. Having spent several years as a training partner with his cousin Mark and Olympic Gold Medalist Adam van Koeverden, Brant has since made the switch over to the exciting sport of Kayak Polo, where he is a current member of the Canadian National Team, representing the country over the past 4 years at World Championships, World Games, & Pan-American Championships.

Brant has been very involved with the Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition in the past, having competed for 4 years while at Queen’s, and acting as Team Director in 2004. Brant was also a judge for the competition when it was last hosted in Toronto, back in 2010.


ERIC LACHANCE-TREMBLAY
Eric Lachance-Tremblay

Eric Lachance-Tremblay is a PhD candidate at Ecole de technologie superieure (ETS) in Montreal. His fields of research are the study of pavement materials behavior and rheology, especially asphalt concrete. M. Lachance-Tremblay has participated in many research project regarding lightweight concrete, pervious pavements and cold recycling asphalt concrete. He holds a bachelor and a master degree from ETS and he is also member of the Ordre des Ingenieurs du Quebec. In addition of his studies, he works as a teacher assistant and a lecturer in material science and technology at ETS. M. Lachance-Tremblay was a member of the ETS concrete canoe for 4 years, working on the R&D aspect. In 2012, he was commissioner of the 19th Canadian national concrete canoe competition held in Montreal. M. Lachance-Tremblay is also involved in the Montreal chapter of the Canadian society of civil engineer (CSCE) as well as in the steering committee responsible for the Canadian steel bridge competition.

 


MARC-ANDRE THEBERGE
Marc-Andre Theberge

MASc candidate at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies in the experimental fluids lab. Graduated from Carleton University in Aerospace Engineering Stream A Co-op program in 2014. Worked at Pratt & Whitney Canada, Longueil QC, in the Advanced Quality Engineering department from 2012-2013. Fluent in French and English.

 

 

 

 

 


MARK BRUDER
Mark Bruder

Mark Bruder is a structural engineer and shareholder of R.V. Anderson Associates Limited with 7 years of experience in civil engineering infrastructure projects in the fields of water, wastewater, municipal, and urban development. His work includes structural analysis and design with steel/aluminum/concrete/wood, project management and contract administration, construction support and site inspections, and 3D Modeling and CAD drafting.

In 2008, he earned a bachelor’s of engineering science degree from Western University. Prior to his final year of study, he completed a 16 month internship at The Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory where he helped determine the wind loads on many high rises around the world including Absolute World in Mississauga and the Telus House in Toronto.

A few notable projects at RVA include the structural design/drafting of concrete foundations for the giga roller coaster “Leviathan” at Canada’s Wonderland, structural design/drafting of steel supports and concrete foundations for the 4D dark ride “Wonder Mountain’s Guardian” at Canada’s Wonderland, and structural design/drafting of the spillway and stilling basin on Tower Road Dam in Moncton.

Outside of work, he’s a roller coaster enthusiast and enjoys hiking in the mountains. This is his first time judging the Canadian Concrete Canoe Competition and he is eager to see what kinds of novelties the students will unveil.


Nigel Parker
Nigel Parker

Nigel Parker is Project Engineer at Read Jones Christoffersen (RJC) in the Building Science & Restoration group. At RJC, Nigel takes an active role in the investigation and rehabilitation of building façades, cast-in-place, post-tensioned, and pre-cast concrete structures. He is responsible for managing projects from start to finish, including pre-design assessments, design, tendering, construction contract administration and project close-out.

Nigel graduated from the University of Alberta in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and again in 2011 with a Masters in Engineering Management specializing in Engineering Management. Nigel is a Licensed Professional Engineer and a member of Professional Engineers Ontario. Nigel is a LEED® Accredited Professional with the specialty designation of Building Design and Construction.

Nigel was heavily involved in the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) as the University of Alberta 2010 team captain, and the event co-chair for GNCTR 2011. In addition, Nigel is the Section Chair of the CSCE Toronto Section and the Chair of the CSCE National Young Professionals Committee.
